Abi Daré

The Author

Abi Daré is the author of The Girl with the Louding Voice, which was a New York Times bestseller, a #ReadWithJenna Today Show book club pick, and an Indie Next Pick. She grew up in Lagos, Nigeria and went on to study law at the University of Wolverhampton and has an MSc in International Project Management from Glasgow Caledonian University, as well as an MA in Creative Writing at Birbeck, University of London.  Abi lives in Essex with her husband and two daughters, who inspired her to write her debut novel.

The Book

Daré’s evocative follow up novel finds 14 year old Adunni in Lagos, excited to finally enrol in school.  Having escaped her village in a desperate bid to seek a better future, she’s found refuge with Tia, a woman on her own troubled journey of self-discovery.

But on the night before her first lesson, a terrible knocking summons Adunni back to her home village.  As Tia frantically tries to protect her from an uncertain fate, Adunni must try to save not only herself but all the young women of her village, and transform Ikati into a place where girls are allowed to claim the bright futures they deserve.

It sounds like a year in paradise to save a species but the reality is more complex.  Charlotte has a secret that connects her to the island and is determined to resolve the mystery that has dominated her life.

A complete and vivid world to escape to, Welcome to Glorious Tuga celebrates a fictional island, and the eccentric community who live there. Enchanting, uplifting and very funny, this is a captivating novel about love, belonging, and what it really means to come home.
