A markedly assured new voice…a novel of increasing psychological suspense…its story and narrative will put many readers under a deliciously shivery spell. Sunday Telegraph
When Ruth Ardingly and her family first leave London in their grime-encrusted car and view The Well, they are enchanted by a jewel of a place, a farm that appears to offer everything the family are searching for. But The Well’s unique glory comes at a terrible price. With the pace of a thriller and the heart of a literary smash hit, The Well is a dark and devastating tale of obsession, motherhood and the complexity of female relationships, wrapped inside a gripping whodunit.
Kate Hamer grew up in Wales where she completed a Creative Writing MA. In 2011, she won the Rhys Davies Short Story Competition; it was then broadcast on Radio 4. More recently she was awarded a Literature Wales bursary. The Girl in the Red Coat has been widely tipped by the media as one to watch for 2015.
Compulsively readable. Beautifully written and unpredictable, I had to stop myself racing to the end to find out what happened. Rosamund Lupton, author of Sister and Afterwards
Missing, Carmel Wakeford, 8-year-old-girl, last seen wearing a red coat…
Carmel Wakeford becomes separated from her mother at a local children’s festival and is found by a man who claims to be her estranged grandfather. He tells her that her mother has had an accident and that she is to live with him for now. As days become weeks with her new family, Carmel realises that this man believes she has a special gift, that she is potentially a saviour….
While her mother desperately tries to find her, Carmel is sent on an extraordinary journey, one that will make her question who she is – and who she might become.
